DetailsYou return to the Poor Quarter, it still has the dark malevolence you remember. You find yourself suspicious of the long shadows that lurk in crooked allies that arc off the street into who know where. Most of the people shuffle around the narrow cobbled streets with a hunted furtive look to them. Hunched and shooting sideways glances, suspicion seems to be a way of life here. You jump when someone calls to you. Many around you freeze at the shout, then scuttle away from you. Your hand goes straight to your weapon. You then see what looks to be a Merchant dressed in rough looking cloths waving at you. You approach the man slowly. He looks around, 'Are you the Hunter from SK Acquisitions I'm waiting for? You will have that Medallion on you right?' The man takes it quickly, 'Excellent, you took your time though! I'm Gillan Blackmore, I need your help. But you have to be quiet about it. I've heard good things about your Hunters Guild. Tell me when your ready to go.' Gillan hops nervously from one foot to another, 'You ready for the Contract? I know you might need to get some items repaired or something.' At your words he calms down a little. 'Good, you can't be too careful around here you know. You did a contract for the merchants a while back. Helped them out with some Cut Purse problem. Well I've been sent by them to ask you to do something along the same lines here. But I need some proof that the kills have been made. I'm sure you understand.' You nod, but there is something not right about this Patron. You just can't put your finger on it. Gillan continues, 'Good, good. I'm glad we see eye to eye. They told me you were a quick study.' He smiles blandly at you. You wisely suppress the urge to punch him. Gillan looks over his shoulder for an instant. You get the distinct impression Gillan is not used to being here. Gillan waits for you to return, 'Have you dealt with the Urchins and found out what they are trading between each other?' Gillan stares at the modified Crude Dagger. His eyes open wide, 'Are you sure this is what they give to each other?' You nod. 'Umm, well at least you got rid of a few. Anyway thank you for this. I will inform your superiors that you have successfully completed the Contract.' He looks at the Knife again in disbelief, then walks away.' Klines told you that this was the best pub in the Poor Sector. From the sorry sight before you you don't hold out much hope for the rest of it if this is the best the Poor Sector can manage. The Lieutenants Head is tiny. It has just one table and a smattering of stools around the walls. The Bar covers the south wall, it is filled with sharp eyed men. From the looks they give you, you don't get a drink. In the only table sits Sathkaan. He waves you over as you walk in, 'Glad you're here, I just received word that you were successful again! Now I need your Medallion so we can finish here and leave.' He almost snatches the Medallion from you, you can tell he wants to get out of here. He sees the look you give him. 'Let me tell you how this pub got it's name. One day, the King decided to clear out the Thieves Guild. He sent in the entire City Guard. Not one of them returned. Outside this pub, the leader of the Guard was decapitated and his head stuck on the door. The rest of the body was left on the Kings Dining table. This was the Thieves Guild head Quarters at the time. They have now moved on obviously. But this is not a friendly place for outsiders to linger. The Thieves Guild are NOT a bunch you want to cross, ever. They are serious, serious people.' 'The King learnt that distasteful fact that night. Never again has there been any attempt to wipe out the Thieves Guild. Oh - just one more historical fact. A week later the King died of natural causes. His son was put on the throne. Happy days, everyone loves a good coronation.' He hurriedly notches your Medallion, then hands it back to you. 'Right, we have another Contract for you. I received a runner just before you came in actually. Very fast. A rush job it seems. Anyway, as long as we get out of here I'm pleased. Go see Bolan in the Harbor. Now, let's get out of here.' |
