Details

The air is think with screaming spirits, their cries chill your very soul. You are about to walk on when without a word, Jamiesina walks off deeper into the realm.

Irritated you follow her. You have to defend yourself against manic Spirits several times, but eventually you discover Jamiesina standing next to a foul altar. She stares at sheathing runes carved deep into the stone. 'I'm sorry, but I cannot stand to listen to their screams. The Spirits are in terrible pain. They have been trapped here, and they are being shaped into foul creatures by this twisted thing.' She points at the altar.

You ask her if she can understand the runes that are craved into the Altar. She blinks rapidly. 'Oh, yes I had not actually attempted to read them yet. There is a tremendous pull of destiny here. Its as if this is an anchor or something. But I shall see what they are saying.' She stalks around the altar for a moment. Then stops.

'I don't understand, there is normally a silly rant to GorGulGol, but there is nothing here. Just what looks like a twisted traveling ritual. For Undead to be made you much make a contract with the death god. Only when you appease him can you imprison a soul into a corpse or curse. There must be a vessel to hold the Spirit you see. I don't understand why that is missing here.'

Jamiesina bites her lip, then seems to make a decision. 'Well, that is not important. What we must do is destroy this altar. We know that this is a travel spell, all travel spells are keyed into something. Normally its the life energy of the being that uses the portal. But this seems to be keyed into a particular time rather than a being. There are two problems, the first is we need to discover what time this portal is focused onto. That can be discovered from all these spirits around here. The other is a more difficult prospect. We will need a spell force that is greater than that used to construct this altar. But where will we find a powerful Necromancer to help us?'

Jamiesina stands next to a Necromantic Alter, 'We need the power of a powerful Necromancer, without it we cannot destroy this alter and souls will be continually summoned here.'

The Necklace rests in your fingers, the beads gently pulse with energy. Jamiesina stares at it for a moment. You say is has to be pulsing for a reason. She takes it and closes her eyes. After a few moments she drops it. Fear is etched on her face.

'I now know why Grol Gik was able to destroy an undead frail as he was. The Undead had no intention of winning the fight. You remember that I said that all Undead spells need a vessel. Well with the destruction of the Undead, the soul was freed from the ancient decaying body. There are binding runes within these beads, they now hold the soul of the Necromancer. His name is Virmalthorn. Fortunately the runes keep the soul asleep. But if you put it on, I suspect that your mind would be shattered and Virmalthorn will take control. Thus acquiring a new healthy body. I guess he didn't fancy being a Goblin lucky for Grol Gik.'

She kicks the necklace over to you. 'I'm sorry I cannot touch it again now that I know its true nature. My talent might make me more susceptible for domination if I were to put it on. Please take the Necklace for now.' She then takes out a parchment and scribbles some notes down. 'We must seek to destroy the necklace, I have an idea. '

You receive 1 x Necklace of Virmalthorn

The Seer stands before you writing on a piece of parchment?

Jamiesina smiles at you, 'Yes, we shall use the Necklace to build another magical artifact. One that will also destroy this alter. It will destroy both the alter and the Necklace.' She smiles craftily as she hands you the scroll. 'Kill two birds with one stone as it were. Return to me when you have made the item.'

You receive 1 x Craftshatter Crystal Recipe

Jamiesina waits for you to return, 'Did you manage to make the Craftshatter Crystal?'

The Seer takes the red pulsing crystal skull. 'I see the necklace has effected the Glass Skull, but with the will of Virmalthorn present within the device, I think we can put an end to this foul altar.' She turns and holds the Crystal above the altar. She then mutters something under her breath. purple sparks begin to arc down and the light of the runes flickers. She suddenly stops speaking and drops the skull.

The Skull spins through the air, then hits the foul stone beneath. With a thunder clap you are reduced to your knees as sound and light envelope you...

You come too and see a clear sky above. You grab your weapon and stand quickly to your feet. But you are just met with silence. Jamiesina is a crumpled heap by the shattered altar. The runes seem to have been torn apart and light no longer glows from their depths. You pick up the Seer and she opens her gazed eyes. 'Is it over?' she asks.

You look down at the top of the destroyed altar to see shards of white crystal scattered across it. But in its center lays a necklace with softly pulsing red beads. The beads pulse slightly brighter now. With a heavy sigh you say, 'No Jamesina, it's not over.' You take the necklace and steady Jamesina as she takes a few halting steps. You then say, 'But at least we destroyed the Altar.' She brushes her long hair from her face. 'Virmalthorn's will is far stronger than I first thought. But as you say we destroyed the Altar, so we accomplished something today.'
