Notes for Legion of Cain New Players

Up until Level 120, at least, you will not have to buy your own gear: the guild has what you need. However, other people in the guild may need it too. If you need some gear and someone else is wearing it, then do not take it unless they are offline or are not hunting. (Hunting means out adventuring, killing monsters.) Guild gear that is being worn shows up blue on the “Report”, which is where you go to borrow the gear. Players may be online if the little dot by their name in the Guild-Manage screen is green. Ask if they are hunting. If they do not respond, they are either offline or presumably not hunting. Look at the guild manage screen when you login to see who else is on: if no one high-level has a green ball next to them, then no one is online to give you free buffs. Note that the green ball does not turn off until 30 minutes after someone logs off, so even if it is on they may not be logged in. Player pages have a time-since-last-act line across the top which can help determine who is online. To borrow the gear, go to Guild-Manage, look near the bottom on the left at the guild store, and click the “Report” button. Then scroll down looking for the gear you want. Hover your mouse over an items thumbnail to see a summary of it. Do not borrow gear that is higher level than you: you cannot use it.

Just leave your borrowed gear on when you are done: people can borrow it directly from you. So do not be surprised to log in and find someone else has borrowed the guild gear you were wearing. Do not store your own gear in the guild store, ever. Try to avoid storing guild gear there: people need the slots in the store to temporarily hold gear they are borrowing from someone else.

Some items come in sets. Never hunt without at least a full set on: that gets you the Elite Hunter buff, which is worth about another 20% Experience points (XP.) Many guild members are willing to “buff” you: the best buffs for leveling are Adept Learner, Doubler, Librarian, Animal Magnetism and Conserve. But these buffs are only cost-effective if you start hunting with a lot of stam and use it all up. So when someone else buffs you for free, do not waste it.

Stam is life: it is the most limited resource in the game. After you get an extra backpack space or 6, put any FSP you have into getting more maximum stam or higher stam gain per hour. Do not buy stam at 25 per FSP (and use the marketplace, not the upgrades page, to convert cash to FSP and FSP to cash.) The more maximum stam you have, the longer can you go between hunts without wasting stam. The more stam gain you have, the more hunting you can do each day. This determines how fast you level up, which determines how rich and powerful you can get. I you can run twice a day, then keep your max stam at around 14 times you stam gain rate. If you can run once a day, have your max stam at about 25 times your stam gain. So if you run once a day and gain 65 stam per hour, have 1620 or so max stam. If you have 90 gain per hour (just about the most you can usually get no matter how high level or rich you are), have 2250 or so max stam. High level players may have 10000 or more stam: this allows them to hunt once a week without wasting stam. The reason they may want to hunt once a week is because they have very high costs they have to pay for potions and buffs in order to run effectively, costs low level players do not need to worry about. If you have to pay 3 FSP to get the buffs you need to hunt, it is better to use those buffs for a 10,000 stam hunt than a 2000 stam hunt.

Monsters that are lower level than you are can be easily kill, but you get much less gold and experience from them than you did when you were at the same level. Only rarely is it worth killing monsters that are below your level. Find a higher-level monster to kill.

If you play using Firefox, get greasemonkey and the fallensword helper script for it. The game will be more enjoyable, and I is especially useful if someone else is hunting where you are hunting because you can hunt faster with it than the other guy, and get to the monsters earlier.

Happy Hunting.
