Details
You walk in on a conversation between Brother Richard and a mysterious woman. Her blue-green hair sticks out in the white and gold interior of the cathedral-- her garb strange but otherwise beautiful. From her shoulders, flowing streams of emerald silk embellish her petite frame.
"Ah, [USERNAME], we were just talking about you," says Brother Richard, "this young lady has come to us with some troubling news."
The woman turns to you. Immediately, you feel a powerful aura emanate from her form, but you are unsure what to make of it. She feels detached. As if she does not belong in this world.
"Greetings. I am Nimue. Brother Richard has told me much about you. Are you the one who can save us from this threat?"
"What threat?" you ask. Nimue regards your question with a warm smile.
"It might be difficult to believe, but I am not from this realm. You and I are quite similar. We are both heroes of our worlds." Nimue steps towards you. You glimpse a white sword attached to her waist. "What do you know about the Portals, [USERNAME]?"
You think for a while. You realize that you have never really thought about the Portals. They take you from realm to realm, but the intricacies of how they work or how they came to be, have never crossed your mind.
Nimue begins, "The Portals are all connected and maintained in a plane called the Sea of Chaos. It is a violent and turbulent place where little can thrive. Over thousands of years, the Portals have been preserved by creatures known as the Astral Mothers."
"However, one such Astral Mother has grown tired of her fated duty. Rosmeriat. It is through her destruction that I have found myself here. It is unknown what could tempt a noble creature to such violent conquest, but I'd wager the Shadowlord has something to do with it."
The Shadowlord. It has been some time since you heard his name crop up in your travels. You furrow your brow.
"Come, let us speak further over a pot of tea. You'll find me in the library."
Speak with Nimue in the Cathedral of Ways (Library).
Following Nimue, you are guided into a small chamber off from the main chapel. In the soft candlelight, the tall bookshelves cast long shadows on the stone walls-- the condition of their tomes attesting to the ancient mysteries they keep.
Nimue motions to a table in the middle of the room. The promised pot of tea bubbles upon it, as well as a rolled-out map of Erildath. You follow her to the table and make yourself comfortable.
"In a few days, the brood of Rosmeriat will invade these lands," Nimue traces her hand over the surface of the open map, "During this time, I will rally the nearby kingdoms to fight against this foe. With your support, I am sure they will believe my every word."
Nimue stills her hand, and every marked Portal on the map suddenly begins to glow. "Our enemy, the Brood of Rosmeriat, will emerge from the Portals. What all of us rely on will soon become the source of our nightmares."
"[USERNAME], Erildath will need you there on the frontline. Before you go, you will need this ring."
Nimue pulls out a ring as black as the void. The light of the cathedral does little to give it form. "This Void Ring will allow you to fight them. Without it, your sword swings will merely pass through."
"Return to me when you have slain 1,000 Cosmic Spiders. Prove to me you have the strength to take the fight straight to Rosmeriat herself!"
While wearing the Void Ring, defeat 1,000 Cosmic Spiders.
You receive 'Void Ring'.
Nimue looks up, her hand lifting from the map.
\"USERNAME, I pray you have been successful?\"
"I knew I could count on you! Now, can you defeat 250 Dark Cosmic Spiders for me? We mustn't give them a chance to recover!"
While wearing the Void Ring, defeat 250 Dark Cosmic Spiders.
Nimue looks up, her hand lifting from the map.
\"USERNAME, I pray you have been successful?\"
Relieved, Nimue sighs. She brings her hand to her chest, clutching a pendant around her neck. However, before you can speak further, a sharp chiming sound can be heard from across the room.
Snapped from reverie, Nimue rushes over to the table. Upon it, red pillars of distorted light are shining down on various points of the map. She mutters quietly beneath her breath as sweat drips from her brow.
"What is it? What’s wrong?" You ask, approaching the table.
"I … I’m not sure. I must not jump to conclusions. [USERNAME], I will need some time with my map. I will send word to you if I require further aid."
You receive 18,010 XP and 12,000 gold.
