Overview

Composing is a game feature which allows players to sacrifice unneeded drops and turn them into custom potions. The concept of composing was first introduced in the game forum in 2012; part 1 of the feature was introduced in summer of 2013, with part 2 following release in the fall.

When a player composes a potion, he must select to make it either bound or guild-bound. Bound potions act like any other bound item in the game, and cannot be given away to any other player. They are intended for the player's personal use only. Guild-bound potions are able to be given to other players in your own guild, or left in the guild store for other players' use. However, no composed potion may be sold or given away to someone outside of your guild.

Breaking down items

Some Items can be broken down to convert them into fragments. Fragmentable items:

  • must not be bound (that is, they must be tradable). Quest Items and other bound items may not be broken down.
  • must be of one of the nine types of items that can be worn as gear: Helmets, Shields, Swords, Armor, Runes, Rings, Amulets, Boots, or Gloves. Potions, resources, bottles, and items of any other type may not be broken down.
  • must not be of epic rarity.
  • must be dropped by creatures in PvE. Items sold in stores may not be broken down.

Types of Fragments

Depending on their rarity of the item broken down, you'll get fragments of the corresponding type:

  • Common items will yield one or more 0.png Common Fragments
  • Rare items will yield one or more 1.png Rare Fragments
  • Unique items will yield one or more 2.png Unique Fragments
  • Legendary items will yield one or more 3.png Legendary Fragments
  • Crystalline items will yield one or more 5.png Crystalline Fragments
  • Super-Elite items will yield one or more 4.png Super-Elite Fragments

Number of Fragments per item

The number of fragments you will receive for a given item is based on the item's level, and is calculated with the following formula:

Fragments = RoundUp(SquareRoot(ItemLevel / 100))

Item level: 1-100 101-400 401-900 901-1600 1601-2500 2501-3600 3601-4900
Fragment(s): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

In addition, items which have been hellforged produce one additional fragment (of the appropriate type) per level of hellforging. Thus a unique, level 450 helm with 3 level of hellforging will produce 6 fragments (3 because of its level and an additional 3 because of the hellforging).

Fragments do not require backpack space. They are simply listed on the player's "Composing" page until used.

NOTE: If you are looking for common fragments in the 401 - 900 range, the lowest level creature to drop common items in this range is the level 433 Gobbler. For the 901-1,600 range, one of the best creatures is the level 931 Slave Shade that lives on a small map but it is in a dark realm.

Composing Potions

Note: The information in this section is based on the most recent proposal in the game forum (Revision 1.2, which can be viewed here: http://forums.huntedcow.com/index.php?showtopic=56864), and is subject to change, possibly major change, before it actually is introduced within the game.

The number and type of fragments (and the amount of gold) required to compose a given potion depend on:

  • The number of skills included in the potion
  • The level of each skill included
  • The desired duration of the potion

Fragment Cost per Potion

For each skill added the Fragment cost is as follows:

0.05 Common Fragments per skill level

0.04 Rare Fragments per skill level above 50

0.04 Unique Fragments per skill level above 125

0.04 Legendary Fragments per skill level above 175

0.04 Crystalline Fragments per skill level above 250

0.02 Super Elite Fragments per skill level above 300

The number of Fragments per skill is rounded up for each type of fragment.

Additionally, the fragment cost is multiplied for every 30 minutes of duration rounded up.

Example: I want to create a potion with Conserve 150 and Light Foot 275 that will last 45 minutes.

Duration Multiplier = RoundUp(45 / 30) = 2

     Common Frags = 2 * (RoundUp(150 * 0.05) + RoundUp(275 * 0.05)) = 44
       Rare Frags = 2 * (RoundUp((150 - 50) * 0.04) + RoundUp((275 - 50) * 0.04)) = 26
     Unique Frags = 2 * (RoundUp((150 - 125) * 0.04) + RoundUp((275 - 125) * 0.04)) = 14
  Legendary Frags = 2 * RoundUp((275 - 175) * 0.04) = 8
Crystalline Frags = 2 * RoundUp((275 - 250) * 0.02) = 2
Super Elite Frags = 0

Cost Per Potion

The cost of composing a potion is equal to the total number of skill points used multiplied by the potion's duration in minutes (5000 gold minimum).

Example: I want to create a potion with Anti-Deflect 300 and Gloat 200 that will last 2.5 hours.

Initial Cost = (300 + 200) x (60 x 2.5)
             = 500 x 150
             = 75,000

It will cost 75,000 gold to create this potion.

Instant Finish Price

The first time you use Instant Finish the price is equal to the initial cost of creating the potion multiplied the percent of time remaining (expressed as a decimal), rounded up.

Example: My initial cost to create the potion was 25,921 gold and it is 2.7% complete.

Instant Finish Price = 25,921 x (100 - 2.7)/100
                     = 25,921 x .973
                     = 25,221.133

It will cost 25,222 gold to Instant Finish this potion.

Each subsequent use of Instant Finish increases the price according to a geometric progression with a factor of two. (1st use costs 1 x initial cost x percent remaining, 2nd use costs 2 x initial cost x percent remaining, 3rd use costs 4 x initial cost x percent remaining, 4th use costs 8 x initial cost x percent remaining, 5th use costs 16 x initial cost x time remaining, and so on.)

Example: My initial cost to create the potion was 11,663 gold and it is 85.4% complete.
I've used Instant Finish seven times today.

Instant Finish Price = 2^7 x 11,663 x (100 - 85.4)/100
                     = 128 x 11,663 x .146
                     = 217,958.144

It will cost 217,959 gold to Instant Finish this potion.

The Instant Finish Price resets every day at 00:00 server time.

Composing Time Per Potion

Time to create = maximum( ( round up( maximum( total skill points, 150) / 20 ) x 5 ) + ( round up( potion duration / 30 ) x 30 ) - ( ( composing level - 1 ) x 5 ), 60 )

Composing XP/Levels

As a bonus, in addition to being able to create potions with new skills and higher levels at each level, for every ten (10) levels you get to create an additional potion. For example, at level 10 you can create 2 potions at the same time and at level 20 you can create 3.

Level Table

Players initially start at Composing Level 1 and gain Composing XP for each potion created.

formula XP Required for LVL = ((LVL-1)^2) * 250

Experience Formula

  • if potion duration > total skill points

XP = round up [(total skill points / 60) + (total skill points / 500)] * 10;

  • else

XP = round up [(potion duration / 60) + (total skill points / 500)] * 10;

You can use the online calulator of drugie to calulate the XP: http://zt.sparkonline.net/composing/calculator.php

Leveling Using The Least Amount of Common and Rare Fragments

Composed potions have the following constraints:

  • Potion duration range is between 30 and 300 minutes.
  • The maximum number of skills you can place in a potion is 5.
